This book includes over two hundred musical scales and modes from different regions of the Globe, trying as best as possible to offer their more appropriated form for the Western musical system. Every scale is transposed for each pitch in the tonal system. For every region there is a theoretical reference based on the scales used in each part of the Globe and every musical system from which the scales and modes derive. In music, a tonality is the phenomenon of gravity and convergence of the pitches from a musical composition towards a center, named “tonic”. The notion of “musical scale” is a successive arrangement (ascending or descending) of musical notes compounding a tonality starting with the tonic and finishing with another tonic at an octave. The notion of “musical mode” represents a system of melodic structures and relations, and then harmonic, specific, different from the tonal or atonal ones, coming from popular creations and other musical creations deriving from them.
